Schistosoma genomics

This web page is a resource to the Schisto research community interested in pushing the genomics field forward.  This derives from the discussions Dan Colley and Evan Secor initiated: A schistosomiasis research agenda (link to manuscript in PLoS Negl Trop Dis).

The discussion on the genomics topic is being coordinated by Guilherme Oliveira and Tim Yoshino.

This is an open forum.  If you want to add information please send me the text/file.

Communication

We will use bionet/schistosoma to exchange messages.  I would encorage all of you to subscribe to it.  Instructions can be found here (look for SCHITOSOMA) or in this file.

Points for discussion

- Involve the community in the integration of the genomics data into SchistoDB.
- Seek support for maintenance of SchistoDB as a community genomics database.  Annotation and uploading new data is difficult to fund.
- Seek individuals to work in collaborative projects on:
     . Large scale RNAi knockdown.
     . Development of transgenesis.
. Push for the sequencing of B. glabrata.
. Further genome sequencing, assembly and annotation.
. Development of a Schistosoma cell line.
     . S. mansoni X S. japonicum comparative genomics.
- Find space in the next ASTMH meeting to have people discuss above and other possibilities.
- Once we have given this sufficient thought perhaps publish the ideas in a journal like Trends in Parasitol/PLoS NTD to stimulate the community.
